Arabic-speaking older immigrants’ perceived acceptability of interventions for preventing elder abuse

Objective: Although research has identified interventions to address risk factors for elder abuse, it is unclear which are relevant specific immigrant communities. This study examined how Arabic-speaking immigrants in the Greater Toronto Area perceived acceptability of abuse and explored gender differences these perceptions. Methods: Older women men (N = 37) who self-identify as residing rated 14 interventions. The literature describes addressing reported at levels older adults, family, their relationship, social environment. Four items, adapted from a validated measure, were used assess interventions’ acceptability. data analyzed using descriptive statistics (objective 1) independent sample t-test 2). Results: five prevent community highly acceptable: case management, outreach, advocacy, community-outreach programs, peer-support programs.
